Naija Super 8 Gameweek 2: Players Performance Round-Up

Naija Super 8

Remo Stars and Katsina United played out a 1-1 draw, while Sporting Lagos showed that they are ready to take on the big boys in the NPFL with a 0-0 draw against Enyimba while missing a late penalty.

Given the results, it was a low-scoring fantasy gameweek. In addition, with the very active transfer window coupled with the club managers adjusting lineups for the Naija Super 8 competition, many of the listed players in FanBants Versus did not play, making team selection very challenging for fantasy managers. However, the insights below from this gameweek will serve managers well for the upcoming FanBants Versus contest. So let's get started:

Remo Stars

#14 Olamilekan Adams (6.25 Fantasy points - 2 shots, 1 shot on goal, 1 cross, 2 fouls won, 1 interception, 2 interceptions, 1 yellow card, 1 fouls conceded):

Although he didn’t find the back of the net, Lekan troubled the Katsina United defence with flashes of brilliance throughout the match. He combined with the midfield with neat one-two passes and made some good runs. He also occasionally drifted out wide to take on defenders and won several corners. He missed a golden chance to score when he took an extra touch instead of taking a first-time shot with his potent left foot.

#25 Nduka Junior (6 Fantasy Points - 1 shot, 1 shot on goal, 2 crosses, 9 interceptions, 4 fouls conceded): Nduka was an all-action captain - as he marshalled his defence expertly. His well-timed interceptions look easy. He also made his presence felt in the attack with good crosses and by stepping up to take free kicks duties.

#28 Emmanuel Adebayo (5.5 Fantasy Points - 2 crosses, 2 fouled won, 4 interceptions):

Emmanuel was the first substitute replacing his injured teammate at the 9-minute mark. His calm presence in the midfield was appreciated by the Remo faithful, who unsurprisingly outnumbered the Katsina fans given the proximity of Remo to Lagos.

Sporting Lagos

#15 Patrick Egeonu (8 fantasy points - Stats: 12 interceptions, 1 tackle, 1 clean sheet, 1 foul conceded, and a yellow card):

A general at the heart of the defence. With 12 interceptions - the highest in the tie against the People’s Elephant, Patrick is a defender no striker would fancy his chances against. Patrick also emerged as the FanBants player of the week with the most fantasy points.

#29 Osaveche (6 Fantasy Points 1 shot, 2 crosses, 3 fouls won, 1 clean sheet, and 1 foul conceded):

A dynamic right-back with a knack for both defence and attack. One of the shining lights in the sterling encounter Sporting had with Enyimba. With his contributions and a clean sheet, he proves to be a valuable asset for fantasy managers to look out for!

#28 Saturday Okon (5.25 Fantasy Points - 1 shot, 3 crosses, 1 foul won, 2 interceptions):

A talented attacker who brings versatility to the team. He was a thorn in the flesh for the Enyimba's defence with his work rate.

#20 Ayemwenre Rivio (3.5 Fantasy Points - 2 shots won, 1 fouled won):

A force to reckon with in the middle of the park. He would have an excellent game if he had better transitions between the middle and attack.

#6 Emmanuel Odafi (2 Fantasy Points - 1 tackle won, 1 foul won):

A tenacious midfielder. He was decent and wasn't caught unaware all through the game. Emmanuel showcased his skills with one tackle and foul won each.

#12 Chisom Orji (1.5 Fantasy Points - 1 interception, 1 tackle won):

His attacking contributions weren't good enough for a player that played the full match. Outside the one interception and tackles won, he contributed little or nothing as a forward.

Enyimba

#22 Ikenna Cooper (6.5 Fantasy Points, foul won, 1 cross, 4 shots, 1 foul conceded): A versatile midfielder who leaves opponents in his wake. With one foul won one accurate cross, and four shots, Ikenna's dynamic presence creates scoring opportunities for his team, albeit his forwards couldn't convert. He emerged as the player with the second most fantasy points for gameweek 2.

#18 Pascal Eze (3 Fantasy Points - 1 yellow card, 1 foul conceded, 2 interceptions and a clean sheet):

A resilient defender, but if he could look back at the game, he would pick one or two lessons on his timings, as he had a couple of wrong footings in the game -- which earned him a yellow card and one foul against. All thanks, to the missed penalty from Sporting Lagos, which earned Patrick a clean sheet. It wasn't all a bad day in the office as he intercepted 2 passes.
